THE NAVY HOUSE

This project aimed to reimagine the spatial possibilities of a home with significant historical and architectural characteristics while preserving, enhancing, and celebrating its Federation features.

The original details of the home have been thoughtfully preserved and reinterpreted with a playful color palette and modern finishes, creating a seamless integration of historic and contemporary elements. A modern lofted extension at the rear of the house features steel-framed doors that serve as a clear delineation between the old and new spaces. The contemporary kitchen, characterized by soft curves and natural materials, promotes the flow of energy throughout the historic and modern spaces, resulting in an uninterrupted and effortless circulation.

This project artfully demonstrates how heritage places can be respectfully and creatively reimagined and how historic and contemporary spaces can be seamlessly integrated with careful design and consideration of its historical contribution. The result is a stunning home that continues to be a valuable asset to Mosman's built environment.
